I’m not sure if it’s coming from Castleford (home of Henry Moore) or just an innate love or decent art but my goodness I love a trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP), it always has something good installed and this visit was no exception.
Not Vital had a great series of artworks across 3 rooms in a new extension to the indoor exhibition space. We then went over to Ai Weiwei to see his tree sculpture “Iron Tree” which is a truly complex and labour intensive piece of art and therefore dam good art.
We saw other things but that was the highlights…Photos below, enjoy!
When ever possible we try and visit “Aunty Olive”. I’m only doing speech marks around Aunty Olive as I’m sure there is a degree of separation from that title and Mairi (so she’s Mairi’s mum’s Aunty) but she’s awesome so we just say she’s Aunty and live with it.
So on Wednesday (7/3) it was my birthday and for the first time in my working life I took it as a day off! I was then asked what I wanted to do, I took ages to choose which will surprise anyone who knows me, but eventually settled on the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP).
I’ve been before and you can see my blog post on that visit here, but let’s focus on the here and now…
So the whole day actually included a major day out at Meadowhall but I didn’t take any pictures of it as it was mainly shops and a restaurant. So after the shopping trip we had about an hour and a half to play with at YSP and, as ever, it didn’t disappoint.
Although clearly doing some maintenance work at the time it was still a good visit all the same.
Featured artists in the following images are:
Sophie Ryder – Rabbits / Bunny people
Sui Jianguo – 2 two suits
Henry Moore – Bronze sculpture oddness
Ursula von Rydingsvard – crystal looking den house
Magdalena Abakanowicz – Rust metal sculpture
And I’m afraid I don’t know the other artists
So enjoy and let me know what you think of my photographs… also features my very beautiful daughter looking all cute.
Living in York does tend to pose a massive hurdle to people visiting you from lands afar, as it’s a bit of a trip to get to in the car or train. Some friends live in London – we normally see them at Greenbelt music festival but this year we won’t be attending as our little bundle of joy will be only 1 month old so we made the trip to the big smoke and went and saw some things…
With such a rich tapestry of things to photograph I went a little snap happy but mainly caught up with good mates. So here is London in a few hours with friends, art, rivers at night, Victorian pubs, Jesus, the underground, skateboard stunts, exercise and giant jelly babies!
Just as Autumn started to kick in we met up with Carol and Twinkle (so named for his job in lighting tech), with thier two kids and went for a wonder around the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (or YSP if you prefer). We had a great time, Hazel the young girl of the group wanted cake towards the end of the day but this is not anything new!
As normal my Nikon D3000 came for the ride and I took some photos of lots of great stuff including Henry Moore bronze pieces.
