Wow has it been a long time, I’ve been a busy bee. So busy in fact that I’ve not edited and uploaded images for what seems like ages! But here is Bobbie’s 4th Birthday images, she enjoyed her day so much.
I took a great deal more photos than this but they are of her mates and I’m not running round getting permissions to publish them all. Carol provided the entertainment via ShortStoryLady a most excellent time was had by all!
So on Wednesday (7/3) it was my birthday and for the first time in my working life I took it as a day off! I was then asked what I wanted to do, I took ages to choose which will surprise anyone who knows me, but eventually settled on the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP).
I’ve been before and you can see my blog post on that visit here, but let’s focus on the here and now…
So the whole day actually included a major day out at Meadowhall but I didn’t take any pictures of it as it was mainly shops and a restaurant. So after the shopping trip we had about an hour and a half to play with at YSP and, as ever, it didn’t disappoint.
Although clearly doing some maintenance work at the time it was still a good visit all the same.
Featured artists in the following images are:
Sophie Ryder – Rabbits / Bunny people
Sui Jianguo – 2 two suits
Henry Moore – Bronze sculpture oddness
Ursula von Rydingsvard – crystal looking den house
Magdalena Abakanowicz – Rust metal sculpture
And I’m afraid I don’t know the other artists
So enjoy and let me know what you think of my photographs… also features my very beautiful daughter looking all cute.
Famously a Kinks album but also a line from James Bond as well as other attributed sources. What I take from it is that many people have asked when new photos of Bobbie / Roberta will be appearing, the answer is now.. enjoy.
(Normal notes apply, click on an image to see more details. They were taken by my normal Nikon D3000 and my new Samsung S2 phone/computer/camera edited on Photoshop7 and Nikon NX2 other than a few of the mobile photos which were shot using the excellent vignette app on my phone.
Being a dad… well its a challenge so I thought I’d note down a few thoughts on it from 8 weeks in.
Free time What is this free time you speak of? Before we had Roberta to look after we had lots of fee time to go where we liked and do what we liked as a couple. Once you’re a dad that almost goes out of the window, I say almost as I think if you weren’t careful it would just get eaten up by tasks but a few things have remained thanks to organisation and an understanding wife. The key to that is sharing the caring for Roberta between me and Mairi, which in the first few weeks is hard but as time goes on you can both do a bit so it becomes easier.
Is my child quite clever? This is one of the stereotypical lines from new parents, ‘x is just quite intelligent’, ‘ it’s just the way x plays he/she just seems so clever’. In most cases it will not be true, otherwise the world would be full of quite advanced babies which would just make that the norm thus making lots of normal babies! But Roberta does seem to focus on things and be able to hit them from 6 weeks, she has been able to flip her self over since 6 days old, and has had really good sleep patterns from day 1. In fact the most impressive thing is that if she is not in her PJ’s by 8:30pm we are told by a loud scream, I kid you not!
So this ‘being a dad’ lark is tiring, very rewarding and to be truly honest I can not imagine not having Roberta around. On the back of Steve Hobson’s suggestion I took some more photos of Roberta, these are from 6 weeks so she a bit more weight on her now. Enjoy
Me and Mrs G had an adventure where for one day we looked after someone else’s life….
Given that we can only just look after ourselves this was quite the challenge. Eleanor is Mairi’s (soon to be) God child and is certainly a cute baby. These images are a rare glimpse of Eleanor happy on this fateful afternoon in August, I think the lens and me being ‘arty’ might have distracted her. I have asked her Mum if I can show these images, she said yes so thank you Susannah… enjoy the pictures of the cute baby girl!
btw the picture of the cat is Sybil with her ‘ I am not enjoying this’ face while Eleanor was here…funny cat that one.
